|
|
I had to do this as part of my homework today. We were supposed to write a couple of paragraphs describing Dracula's Castle, but me being me, I had to go and write a short story instead coz I get carried away! :D Hope you like it!
As I walked up the long, narrow road, I began to see a glimpse of the castle. Because of the overpowering trees, I could only see the door. It was very tall and black, with around 5 or 6 steps leading up to it.
I began to walk a little faster up the road when suddenly I heard something. It sounded like somebody rustling in the trees. I came to a halt and froze. I stood there in a soggy puddle with my hands in my trouser pockets, as I listened to see if I could hear anymore of the rustling. I waited a couple of minutes but didn’t hear anything, so I set off walking again.
As I came to the end of the road, a large iron gate stood in front of me. I reached out my hand and slowly opened the gate. It creaked like two old trees swaying in the violent wind.
I crept through the open gate and looked ahead in shock. Dracula’s Castle stood in front of me. It was huge and stood in darkness, all apart from one light in a downstairs room. I edged closer towards a bush near the gate so I could study the room. I wanted to find out if there was anybody in there before I tried to enter.
After about ten minutes, I noticed somebody moving in the room. I tip-toed up to the window, and crouched down under the window ledge. I peeped my head up and gazed in. I saw a little black cat sitting near an open fire. I then looked around the rest of the room and saw that nobody else was there, so I decided to go into the castle.
The front door was stiff, so I had to give it a big nudge with my hip to open it. I stepped inside and closed the door. Strangely, it was easier to close than it was to open. I looked around at the paintings on the wall, mainly of Dracula himself. There were also pictures of his family members. They all looked very similar, and it was obvious that they were related.
I saw that there were 3 doors leading off from the hallway, and a staircase in the centre. I looked up the staircase and it seemed like it was never ending!
After pondering about that for a while, I wondered which door to enter first. I went with the most obvious one, and opened up the door to the room that the cat was in.
The door was an orangey-brown colour with a black handle, and that also creaked when I opened it (maybe Dracula has never heard of oil!). I slowly peered my head around the door into the candlelit room, to see the cat staring at me. It wasn’t an evil stare though, more like a confused one, as if to say ‘’Who on earth are you?!’’.
I made my way towards the cat and held my hand out. He made a quiet, comforting purr so I stroked him. He had a lovely soft, warm coat and seemed rather friendly. But then suddenly he jolted his head up and directed his eyes towards the large window. He pricked his small ears up, and focused on the window for several minutes. He must’ve heard something from outside.
I put my hands back into my trouser pockets and took a couple of steps away from the cat. I slowly made my way towards the window, and looked outside.
There was someone walking up the path. They were dressed in a long, black cloak and theirs hands were placed in one another. They didn’t look like they were walking though, it was more like they were gliding along the smooth concrete.
The strange figure approached the front door. Slowly, they reached out their hand and turned the door handle. I started to panic as I heard the door open, then close again. I couldn’t move a muscle because I was so frightened, so I stood there, frozen.
After a few seconds, I saw the handle move down. It turned slowly, and seemed like this person was actually expecting to see someone in their house that shouldn’t be there. Maybe they’d seen my footprints in the muddy road?
Suddenly, the door swung open. Before me stood a pale looking man, dressed in a black cloak with red lining, black trousers, and shiny, black shoes. He had an evil stare that gazed at me intensely for many seconds. I knew at this point that I had to get out. So I ran through the other door in the room, through what seemed like a laundry room, and out of the back door via the large kitchen.
I ran around the side of the house, through an open sidegate, and down the grass that led towards the narrow road back out of the castle. I looked behind me and saw him standing outside the front door with his cat in his hands. My heart began to beat immensely as I ran faster and faster down the road.
I let out a sigh of relief as I came to the end, and walked back home to safety. |
