Just joined, thanks for the invite.
From UK.
Married, 3 kids (16 - 10), not working as I broke my elbow in May 2004, still now able to use it - boo hoo.
Hey ho.
Hope you like the signature, it's from some lyrics I wrote earlier this year. |

Howdy!
Ouch! I've been lucky enough never to have broken a bone so far in my 21 years. :)
You wrote them? You're a song writer then! Coolio! :D |

I wish I was a song writer. I write poems etc for my pleasure. My daughter (Amy 14)has the writing bug too and is currently in the middle of writing a massive fan fic called "Not Alone" on the Busted'sGal msn site. Typical "girl meets popstar, falls in love but much drama & angst along the way" type of thing but she's so far on page 235 and has developed quite a following. You never know, maybe one day she'll be in print. She's also having drum lessons and has got (or will have as she's not allowed to touch it yet) a bass guitar for Xmas (a beautiful translucent green of course - her fav colour). My eldest (16) is learning the electric guitar, kind of, and having drum lessons. All I need now is for my youngest (10) to join in and I'll have a full band. Needless to say it gets kind of noisy here.
I wrote these (and other) lyrics for her as she was running out of inspiration. She told me where the general story line was headed. The full version:
Never Say
An image in the mirror
A face at my window
You’re all I ever wanted
Why did you have to go
You made me love you
Promised we’d never be apart
Kept calling at my door
Until you stole my heart
Chorus
Never say - I didn’t try
Never say – I lied
Never say – You loved me too
Never say – goodbye
There are many words I feel
Are better left unsaid
I told you that I loved you, well,
You killed that love stone dead
Lies secrets and deceit
Your legacy to me
Tried to be what you want
Then you cut me free
Chorus
I hope you’re happy now
I see you’ve someone new
Good luck to her, I hope she knows
To never say, “I love you
Chorus
Never say “I love you
Thanks for your kind words guys.
As for broken bones, this is the first since I was a toddler - blame that on my brother who pushed my high chair over (I have forgiven him - honest). If you're going to do anything, you may as well do a good job - that should be my motto I think after screwing up my arm so well. (Oh, pun alert. There are now 3 screws in my elbow. Someone shoot me before I come up with any more lame one liners.)

Just be thankful you don't. No, I don't mean that, she's great. Really quirky in an individual kind of way. Likes Busted. Loves Dougie from McFly. Wears Etnies, green tops and beanies, not to mention the sweatbands etc. She's costing me a fortune. Her latest fashion trend is to wear a plain whte v-neck with a tight camisole type top over it. It sound wierd but looks great, and original!!
My eldest (16) is into heavy metal and has just had his lip pierced (Boo). He wears black trousers with loads of zips etc and the obligatory black tops. Wonder what my 10 year old will be into??
At least none of them can ever be called stereotypical eh? Lol |

Oh I'm proud of her alright. Just glad she's such an individual. I'm taking her to London on the 18th Dec to see busted in concert and we're going to stay at the Wembley Plaza overnight as there's no trains home. It's gonna be great.
In the hols we have 'girlie' alnighters where we put our music on (quietly so we don't wake the others up) and just talk, laugh, write, laugh, and prob laugh a bit more. Oh, did I say we have a laugh? She can be a bit random at times. |

Blinkin' 'eck! Got a really moshing family going there! I like, I like! Very talented too by the sounds of it!
I'm 21 and have tried and failed on many ocassions to both finish a story off and learn to play the keyboard. :) If your kids can manage that at 14 and 16, well, the sky could be the limit! :) |

Hi Jon
I always wanted to play the guitar myself. Even had one bought for me by my parents. Had the vast amount of 6 lessons, then the teacher quit - it wasn't me honestly!! Not long after my dad broke the guitar while decorating so no guitar for me. No chance now as my elbow doesn't bend or straighten fully anymore, spent a lovely summer of 9 weeks in plaster from shoulder to finger tip. At least I can boast to be the only one handed tiler I know - I was in the middle of tiling the floor and walls of the utility room when it happened - bad timing or what. Still, one last bit of grouting and it's finished.
Trouble with having a family into music - it costs!! But hey, I'd rather they were into that than drugs, alcohol etc. Amy (14) seems to have a natural talent for the drums - is currently working on grade 4 after only one term of lessons. Let's hope she takes to the bass the same. She had a guitar, briefly, but decided as her brother already had an electric guitar she wanted to be different (sort of my life with this lot) and play bass. Spent ages looking for a green one & eventually found an emerald green, transluscent one on ebay - arm & a leg time again.
I think I started writing when I was at school, used to have a boring hour long bus trip each way so ... as girls do ... wrote about the latest heart throb (embarressing). Then I used to make up short rhymes for the kids when they were younger.
Don't give up on the writing or keyboard, you might just surprise yourself. |

Hehe, talking, laughing and writing sounds like a perfect night to me btw! Not much chance of the girlie bit though with 5 lads!
lol! I'm hopeless at motivation (6 stories without an ending probably gives that away :D), so a music teacher could be what I need! Sadly I don't know of any, certainly none around Manchester :(
Haha, of course! Instruments certainly don't come cheap! And the noise! :P  Ah well, you're right, it could keep them away more from the bad stuff like drugs. Always great to be creative as a kid too! :)
People often say to me just fiddle with your instrument (steady.. :)) and you'll eventually work out how to play a song on it, but I'd prefer to know exactly how to get a song in the first place like y'know? My life won't be complete until I can sit down on a piano by the fire one Christmas afternoon and play every Chrimbo song ever invented to my heart's content.
Perhaps I'm just muscially tuned, but while bass is pretty essential in most songs, certainly as an instrument player, I'd much rather have an electric. Maybe it's just my mosher instincts taking over  That's definitely proof you have a musical child there though! :)
Ah yes, it's ok for you girls, you always have the latest crush to write about. Young lads seem to keep their darkest secrets locked away from the world. Though having said that, I used to love writing to my g/f when I was 15/16. :) |

Didn't have much in the way of romance when I was growing up. came from living in Cornwall, tucked away in the middle of nowhere.
Sound's like you and my 16 yr old would get on okay. He's off to the pub (yes, Mum/Dad come into the taxi service bracket again) most Fridays where they have live bands and spends his time in the Mosh pit, usually complaining of a sore neck next day (no sympathy). They tried banning all under 18's but I think their numbers dropped so much that they're allowed back in now. Thank heavens.
Music seems to be on most of the time. Sam will have his metal on upstairs - most of which I quite like (makes me a cool Mum apparently) - although there are one or two "screamers" that I can't stand. Amy will have her music on either in her room, or in the dining room (her comp is on the table there while we decorate). She listens to Jet, Busted, McGFly, Razorlight, the Zutons etc. I don't think I've heard anything that she's played that I haven't liked - yet!!
Tom (10) isn't really into music yet, but that day will come soon enough no doubt.
I must admit I've usually got some music playing in the background. My husband doesn't work, he had to retire from teaching due to ill health. Can cause a bit of a problem some times as he doesn't always like the music I have on. I like most music, apart from opera. Not too keen on Jazz. Usually the TV is on scuzz, kerrang, B4, Q - yep, all the music channels. Either that or the stereo is on. I play Busted, McFly, Good Charlotte, Velvet Revolver, Guns N Roses, Creed, Evanescence, Puddle Of Mud, good old Status Quo, The Jets etc etc. Even a bit of country sometimes - have to watch that though, can bring up bad memories so have to be in a good mood first.
If I'm home alone (I hate that film), it's turned up full blast and I sing along (usually getting the words wrong) but what the hec. Luckily the neighbours work during the day. Got caught out in the summer though. Had the windows open as it was hot, the music up, and me singing along to some thing or other - then the doorbell rang. Yep, you guessed it, the postman had something that needed signing for. I don't think he's ever looked at me in the same light again. Poor bloke.
I know what you mean about the male of the species (sorry) keeping things locked up. Bad part of our society - the old "big boys don't cry" rubbish. Probably all be better off if they did every now and again. I spent years bottling everything up - it'll find it's way out somehow. Sam (16 yr old) is very much like that. You're never quite sure what's going on inside his head. Still, he's decided he's not too big to sit next to his Mum on the sofa for a cuddle (as long as his mates aren't around of course) so i can't complain.
As long as they remember to respect others and their property I won't complain. They'r all growing up to be very much their own people (persons, what ever), individual in every sense of the word.
You mentioned 5 boys. Are they yours or are you talking about housemates?
Blimey, this had turned into a flaming novel in it's own right!! :smt024 |
