Manchester United 50 years on ….

It was 50 years ago today that tragedy shocked the world of sport.
Sir Matt Busby and his boys plane crashed at Munich airport killing 7 players.
Man Utd drew the game 3 - 3 against the then Yugoslavian team Crvena Zvezda (Red Star Belgrade), United won the tie 5-4 on aggregate.
Then on the way home the tragedy struck on the runway at Munich airport into a unoccupied House, during snowing conditions.
21 people died at the scene and 1 player Duncan Edwards and Captain Kenneth "Ken" Rayment the co pilot died days later.
7 players lost who their lives were:
Geoff Bent
Roger Byrne
Eddie Colman
Duncan Edwards (survived the crash but died in hospital 15 days later)
Mark Jones
David Pegg
Tommy Taylor
Liam 'Billy' Whelan

16 other people died in the crash including Frank Swift - a journalist for the news of the world and also played for Manchester city and England.
The surviving players were :
Johnny Berry (died in 1994)
Jackie Blanchflower (died in 1998)
Dennis Viollet (died in 1999)
Ray Wood (died in 2002)
Players Still alive:
Bobby Charlton
Bill Foulkes
Harry Gregg
Kenny Morgans
Albert Scanlon

Sadly Johnny Berry and Jackie Blanchflower were both injured to such an extent that they never played again.

Sir Matt Busby the team manager (died in 1994) also survived.
Sir matt went on the rebuild the Manchester United team back up the strong team they are today.
Including great players like George best.

Manchester united today have many great players including Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs and properly the best player in the world today Cristiano Ronaldo.

There will be a minute silence before for England play Switzerland tonight a 8pm at Wembley Stadium.

Special mention to the City fans who got so much stick from the media assuming they were going to spoil the minutes silence. So, give them some credit now for their impeccable behavour.
