Cansei de Ser Sexy Review
Cheeky is best word to sum up this little spectacle. Not that cheeky means bad- as it’s a great piece of electro/punk/pop/dancey fun (I’m not being vague you just can’t squeeze it in one box.) The name CSS Translates from Portuguese to English as ‘Tired of Being sexy’ – derived from an offhand comment from Beyonce- bet she regrets that now! The name fits all too well with previous ‘cheeky’ comment and general feel of the album. This six piece band from Brazil echoes the sounds of Gwen Stefani, similar in it’s upbeat, self-assured way- although way more electro and varied style. An energetic ensemble of pounding beats, electric guitars, childish naughty language and the odd bit of singing ….In parts I swear there’s even bits of video game music woven in there. You’ll want to dance right there in the street (I fully had to constrain myself in the Post Office Queue). My personal fave is ‘Music is my hot hot sex’, its got a catchy little chorus and a funky background sound, along with their lead single ‘Lets make love and listen to death from above’ an anthem yet to die from the indie club scene. ‘Alala’ is a pretty fine little number too. Along with the dancing, you’ll be singing along in no time – There’s about 5 lines to a song so an easy feat to master. Verging on tacky pop- Is it or is it not a fad? I’m thinking no- if they keep up the quality beats and catchy songs. Only time- and talent will tell.
