Calvin Harris - I Created Disco Album Review
After hearing (and very much appreciating) ‘Acceptable in the 80s’ on the radio I was straight down my local HMV to hunt down the culprit. I was not disappointed. The album turned out to be superb- in a fun disco kind of way (don’t bother if you need lots of deep lyrics or Sinicism). It’s a great ‘listen while you get ready’ album, and will guarantee to lift any grump into a party frame of mind. Consisting of numerous upbeat electro songs- each tune is exactly what you want and expect after listening to Calvin’s first little disco gem. It’s a tough call when it comes to choosing a firm favourite as ‘Merry making at my place’, (a recent release) is bliss in a box, with an irresistibly catchy beat and chorus (it makes you want to party. Now. ) This is closely followed by ‘The girls’ in which Calvin reels off every type of girl that he likes (them all basically). A bit sceptical about ‘Vegas’ which hovers dangerously near ‘Acceptable in the 80s’ territory….But maybe we’ll let that one slide, as long as Calvin resists the temptation to churn out mere variations in the future (his music does has the potential to become a bit bland). All in all a fantastic lively album – we must also take into account that Calvin recorded the whole thing in his mere bedroom making this a very impressive DIY job. Oh Calvin-you knows what the kids of today want don’t you! If you keep up the quality I’ll be down HMV many more times to come, seeking you out.
