Rach gives it large in da ministry
Written by Rach for UKEvents.net
Friday the 7th of December saw me splashing glitter on my face, savouring the warmth of my flat and dancing round with a hair brush to tunes to get me in the mood as I prepared for a 'Big Night Out'. All to soon we were out braving the icy London winds to get over to the Ministry of Sound. I wanted to get there early to watch the night progress, but was beaten to the front gate by about 100 people! I must admit it's been a while since I've been to a large club and I'd forgotten all the procedures that you've got to go through. It's quite tricky to stay in the party mood, whilst still sober and being searched by a scary looking bouncer! Finally the rigmarole was over and we were allowed in. And I must say that the one word that sprang to my mind for the club was ... disappointment.
With such a name as The Ministry of Sound - you can't quite help getting ideas in your head as to what it's going look like and feel like inside. Since the 90's the name has become an institution and their music is played all over the world. But there was something that didn't quite hit the mark on first impressions. Yes there were fantastic decorations in the rooms - very ambiotic and yes all of it was out of all drunken (or whatever) patron's reach. Each of the four rooms were different enough in appearance but they were still pretty small and I’m not sure the range in music that they offered was varied enough. Despite this I preferred the Baby Box room – with its silver walls, glitter balls and leather sofa’s – that and the happy hardcore sound booming from the stereo!
A couple of rooms were equipped with dancers and as usual the M.C’s were working hard – but one thing I noticed about the mass around me was that most people looked… normal. Sure there were a few hardcore ravers decked out in bikini’s or day-glow suits and there were plenty of Ugg boots and glowsticks floating round, but other than that everyone looked pretty sensible. I almost seemed overdressed for the event! It was actually quite refreshing to see that the majority of the clientele were of my own age range, rather than the tini-boppers that often sneak into clubs in their cheesecloth dresses! The average attendee at this night was about 20-25 and I’m sure the majority of them knew of the Spice Girls before they reformed and grew up with Live and Kicking.
It was quite strange to find that at early doors the music was comfortable enough to talk over. But when 1am struck the doors fully opened and the crowds poured in. It was almost as if the DJ’s sensed this and cranked up the volume. The music then became what I wanted to experience at The Ministry of Sound. The beat kicked up and the mesmerising and uplifting beat took over. You became part of a larger movement. Everyone moving to the sounds carefully blended by the DJ’s. Mix the thumping bass with the exciting lasers and you have The Ministry of Sound Experience. It’s not about the songs or the DJ’s themselves, even though they themselves are worth a listen. But this isn’t what The Ministry is about. It’s about the whole experience and if you’ve not had a piece of it before – you should get yourself down and re-live a taste of the 90’s with a 2007 spin! Definite hands-in-the-air experience! |
