I'm getting more and more concerned about the young age that children are becoming clinically obese.

I know the government have recognised this and are making it a target for development (eventually) but i'm frightened for them.

I deliver health promotion in schools and speak about healthy lifestyle choices etc, basically not telling kids what to do but empowering them to make informed decissions themselves.

I try to encourage them to exercise more, so many children these days just come home from school, sit in front of the tv or playstation. If this is the case I try to get them on a dance mat or eye toy, the kids love it and dont even realise their helping themselves improve their health.

Do you think a main factor in childhood obesity is that the streets aren't as safe as they used to be? I used to play out for hours and hours until i was called (well dragged) in.

I dont know, it worries me, i know how hard it is to lose weight.

love to hear your thoughts and feelings.

Hi Shelly,

Yes i agree.. it seems that the fear of crime is greater than ever now.. but with so much choice in terms of TV channels and xbox, DVDs and videos a lot of kids would prefer to stay in doors.

your right there Debby,i've been dieting,
an it's costin a small fortune. It's cheaper to buy junk food

True, but some people can't go out coz they find it too hard. Most people think I don't go out coz they think I'm lazy, but that isn't the case.. I'd really love to be able to be outside all day, every day :)
