ACOUSTIC LOVE-DOUBLE ALBUM CD

This double album has been described as ‘a stunning collection of today’s finest singer/songwriters’. Sometimes it’s nice to listen to a compilation album, as you don’t get so bored as you might do listening to a single artist or band.

This collection is a real musical treat, featuring songs by James Blunt, David Gray, Eva Cassidy, Dido and Paul Weller. It has plenty of well-known songs by famous artists but there are many lesser-known songs by lesser-known artists too. For example, I’d never heard of Madeleine Peyroux who has a track called ‘Always A Use’. It’s OK, but not particularly outstanding.

The album was inspired by James Blunt’s popular single ‘You’re Beautiful’ which was admired for its simplicity. Joan Armatrading’s classic song ‘Love and Affection’ is also featured on the album. Her track is as old as the hills (1976) but it can still be appreciated. Her deep voice conveys intense feeling. The saxophone on this song adds an interesting musical dimension.

One of the best songs on this album (there are so many great tracks) is a cover version of Bob Dylan’s ‘Lay Lady Lay’by Magnet (with Gemma Hayes). Whoever takes on a cover of a classic song is brave to say the least. Their version is a triumph. Gemma’s voice is exquisite and works well with Magnet.

Imagine listening to these songs after a hard day’s work at the office. You’re on the sofa with a glass of wine in your hand. Perfect.
