The popular TV personality speaks out on the troubled pop star.
With news of BRITNEY SPEARS receiving visitation rights of her two sons and her ex KEVIN FEDERLINE retaining primary custody, TV staple JUDGE JUDY has a few stern words for Britney.
"I cannot believe Britney does not generally love these children," she says. "I think that she's probably gotten her life into a downward spiral from which she has not been able to extricate herself. And whether that's because of drugs or alcohol or social pressures or whatever, she clearly has to get herself back on track. And she probably needs time to do that, and she can't do that while she's mothering two small children who require 100 percent of her attention. That's clear."
But the judge doesn't let Kevin off the hook either. "Maybe he'll actually shape up!" she says. "Figure out how to put his hat on his head -- frontways instead of sideways or backwards. Maybe he'll even get a job that's responsible so his children can see that he goes to work. And it certainly would seem to me that it would behoove him not to at least leave people with the impression that this is a money thing for him so that he can get a free ride off somebody else's talent and finances. He's a man, he's the hunter. He should be out there hunting!"
She says she thinks Britney has a chance of making things right. "I know that there was a time when she was really a lovely young woman whose career looked like it was on-track," she says. "And I think she just got off to a bad start when she got to be major, when she turned 18, when she turned 19 and 20. Some people got in the way of her acting and doing the right thing. Can she get herself back on-track? Maybe, but you don't risk your children's well-being while she's doing it."
And if the judge could talk to the singer directly, she would tell her this:
"'Britney, life is not a dress rehearsal. You only have one chance to go through it. You've made two children, you've made mistakes. Not irreperable. What you have to do is you have to figure out what you're going to do with the rest of your life. You have to start out by being as responsible as you can. No drinking, no drugs, no parties,'" she says. "'You have to educate yourself to be a whole human being. So get smart baby, because you're 25 and a quarter of it, if you live to be 100, is over!'"
