As I am on a role about writing reviews on some major epic movies I thought it was only right to write one on Titanic.
Titanic proved to be one of the most successfull films ever made, It became the first movie to exceed $500 million and the first movie to exceed $600 million in the domestic box office, and the first movie to exceed $1 billion in the foreign box office. Successfull seems to be an understatment! And a few months later it was crowned the Academy's Best Ever Picture.
It is a truly amazing film, the first time I watched it in the cinema the 194 minutes it lasted flew by with it's nail-bitting drama which is paired with one of the most romantic couples that has ever been, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet with an amazing supporting cast including Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, Frances Fisher, Bernard Hill, Jonathan Hyde, Danny Nucci, Gloria Stewart, David Warner, Victor Garber and Bill Paxton.
Directed by James Cameron it is justly recognised as something of a masterpiece. The film cost a phenomenal amount to make, and most of that spending is visible on screen. Everything about it looks amazing, and the effects that go into the sinking of the ship are grippingly realistic. The romantic thread is appealing enough, but its greater purpose is to make the effect of the tragedy more personal. Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio make a fine job of playing the young couple.
The question is..is this film the greatest film ever made? It is certainly the most successful and it would take an outstandlingly awesome epic film to outdo this one! |

I know the movie was a great success but personally speaking I find it a total insult to the real tragedy of Titanic.
I still prefer A night to remember.
Titanic has taken a real life tragedy, changed the story and romanticised it too much.
I think it is so sad that many students doing thesis have actually written to various historians asking questions about "Jack and Rose" and indeed other characters and parts of the storyline thinking that they were researching FACT and not fiction.
I am probably a bit biased as Thomas Andrews is from my original hometown and indeed some of his descendants still live there.
Throughout my childhood we played around the grounds of the Andrews Memorial Hall and walked through the lovely gardens/grounds of the Andrews home.
My husband and most of his family were also employed in Harland and Wolff shipyard from leaving school.
As a romantic fictional film, it is probably a good weepy but I feel it is essential that people realise it is just that....FICTIONAL for the main part. |

| That is a very good point! The story has been edited and moulded to bring money into the box office....which it did! The original story has been pushed into the backround! But then we have people like CraftiEst that remind of of this.....for which i am greatful! :D |
