Jet originate from the suburbs of Melbourne on a strict diet of classic rock, the Cester brothers, Nic Cester (guitar/vocals), Chris Cester (drums/vocals), and Cameron Muncey (guitar/vocals), Mark Wilson (bass), stand for everything that is raw, primitive, direct and loose about rock music, with influences like The Stones, The Kinks, AC/DC, The Who, The Easybeats, spent many of their early days gigging the Melbourne Circuit, never thinking that there band would ever be recognized. Although as always timing was everything.
In 2002, the band pressed the Dirty Sweet EP drawing its name from the T Rex song "Get It On (Bang A Gong)". While the band only pressed 1,000 copies, there was such a demand that they pressed 1,000 more. The timing of this record was good coinciding with the breakthrough of The Vines meaning that international interest in Australian rock bands was high. The NME obtained a copy of the single from the Dirty Sweet EP "Take It Or Leave It" and described it as a mixture of "The Rolling Stones and the balls-out stadium rock of AC/DC." Elektra Records offered the band a contract and re-released the Dirty Sweet EP in 2003.
Jet entered the Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles with Dave Sardy to produce their debut album Get Born.
Get Born debuted at Number 3 and peaked at Number 1 on Australia's ARIAnet Albums Chart as of May 2004 and as so far it has been certified 5X Platinum.
So as you can tell Jet are there way to imense stardom, they have certainly one many fans across the nation. Jet have divided musical opinion sharply, into those who think they are revitalising rock & roll, and those who consider them to be anachronistic and derivative bordering on plagiaristic. They are extremely popular among adolescents and teenagers.
I have yet to purcase their album, but after writing this review and hearing them on the radio I think I just might do so!
