I am not really a fan of ‘pop’ music, but if there was one person in the pop world that really inspires me and that is Chistina Aguilera.
Christina Aguilera's story is a Hollywood dream come true. The daughter of a father in the military and a violinist/pianist mother who toured Europe with the Youth Symphony Orchestra, this18-year-old has traveled the world, living for a time in Japan, Florida, Texas and New Jersey, before settling in Wexford, PA, a suburb of Pittsburgh.
She always wanted to perform as long as she could remember, blue eyed high school senior. Christina first began performing in school talent shows at age six. As an eight-year-old she appeared on the nationally syndicated "Star Search", at age ten she sang the National Anthem for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins, and then, at age 12 landed a spot on the "New Mickey Mouse Club" appearing on the Orlando-based show along with several other future stars, including Britney Spears, J.C. and Justin of 'N Sync and the star of "Felicity", Keri Russell.
After two years, the show ended and Christina got the opportunity to travel overseas to further her musical skills. In 1997, Christina performed in places as far flung as Tokyo, Japan and Romania, but always with her eye on the same goal. She always wanted to release an album before she finished high school.
Christina Aguilera's breakthrough year began with her first Number 1 single Genie In A Bottle, which stayed atop the charts for five consecutive weeks and rocketed the album to Number 1 upon its release in August 1999. The follow-up single What A Girl Wants reached the coveted first Billboard Hot 100 Number 1 slot of 2000 and helped to push the album platinum six times over. What made all this commercial success so much sweeter, were Christina's two Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal performance.
Over all, Christina Aguilera is as overwhelmed as she is thrilled by her enormous success, but she remains reflective and grateful. She claims the greatest thing is being able to interact with fans and touch peoples lives. Her soaring up tempos and thrilling ballads serve as ample proof that Christina is not just a new kid on the block, but a prime candidate for the Voice of her generation.
