After a much anticipated wait, Green Day have finally returned with their new album American Idiot due to be out on September 20th.
Green Day first began when Billie Joe (vocals) and Mike Dirnt (bass, vocals) started a band called Sweet Children and then added a drummer. The name Sweet Children soon changed to Green Day (a name we could never forget). Green Day's first single I want to be alone was released shortly before the drummer left to go to college. Green Day's new drummer, Frank Edwin Wright III, became Green Day's permanent drummer. Shortly after that, Green Day released Kerplunk. After its release major record companies started to take notice of Green Day. The band decided that they would switch from Lookout! Records, with whom they'd released everything from Kerplunk and before, to Reprise Records.
In 1994 Green day released their major debut album Dookie. This went straight to the top of the charts and sold over 20 million copies worldwide (and still is selling very well today). Following the release of Dookie came Insomniac in 1995 which was considered a failure compared with Dookie - it only sold 2 million copies! After that nothing really happened for the band - they just went on tour! Then, in 1997, Green Day released their fifth album, Nimrod. Although Nimrod didn't sell as many copies as Dookie it was still superior to Insomniac in the charts. Nimrod featured songs such as Time Of Your Life (Good Riddance) . After this Green Day went on tour again and then went back home to their families!

Green Day will never change and will be a band we could never forget!
