Muse
The story of Muse all started in a small town called Teignmouth, a seaside town in the southwest of England where they spent much of their young lives. Matthew Bellamy was twelve when he met Chris Wolstenholme. Matthew was pretty skilled on the piano at this time and was improving on his guitar all the time. At that time, Chris was playing the drums in a band called Fixed Penalty. Dominic also played the drums in a band called "Gothic Plague". When Dominic's band needed a new guitarist, they asked Matt to join them. But after a while all the members of "Gothic Plague" except Dom and Matt left the band. Thus, they decided to ask Chris to join them as he could play the bass and do backing vocals. The trio was the formed. The band then turned his name into Rocket Baby Dolls and finally Muse.
The band were not interested in the British music industry at that time so they turned their attention to America and the likes of the Smashing Pumpkins , Nirvana and also Radiohead who the band are often compared to.
The first gigs that Muse played took place at Teignmouth High School. They had to use a boxing ring as a stage. The first gigs that Muse played outside of school were at the Cavern Club in Exeter. Muse also played in various clubs and pubs in Devon where they were often asked to play covers. Not pleased with that situation, Muse became more and more determined to play there own music.
As they began to play fewer and fewer gigs, Dennis Smith (owner of Sawmills Studio) started to get interested in them. In 1995, Dennis Smith told the band they had something.
In 1998 Muse suddenly found themselves playing shows in New York and Los Angeles and had several record labels were interested them.
The success of Muse and Muscle Museum encouraged the band to write their first album Showbiz. In 1999 they went on a world tour as well as other single releases including Uno and Sunburn.
During 2000 Muse continued to play festivals and gigs as well as starting plans for a new album and in 2001 Origin of Symmetry was released, then in 2003 Absolution was released and Muse’s fan base doubled and the rest is history. |
