Nas
“Hip Hop Is Dead” Tour
Hammersmith Apollo
22nd May 2007

Nasir Jones. Nas. Nasy Nas. Escobar. Nastradamus…All of these rap stars were shining brightly last night at the Hammersmith Apollo.

Appearing from the smoke in front of a giant banner proclaiming “hip hop is dead”, Nas sported a white suit, white fitted cap and a gold medallion the likes of Liberace and Slick Rick would be envious of.

The first half of the show was dedicated to his earlier material of off “Illmatic”, “It Was Written”, and “The Firm” albums, performing such gems as NY State of Mind, Represent, Silent Murder, If I ruled the World, and Phone Tap. The Queensbridge veteran , with the help of dj and producer L.E.S, then hurled out a medley of his more commercial tunes to really liven up an already electric crowd.

The performance continued to impress with the man flippin his more recent stuff towards the end of the show and there was even a bit controversy in the mix wit a 50 Cent diss and a powerful delivery of the Jay Z diss “Ether”.

Nas was as cool and slick as you’d expect, but glowed the right amount of energy to deliver a second to none performance. Take it from me, hip hop is NOT dead.
