|
|
When The Darkness smashed their way onto the UK music scene after opening Glastonbury 2003, Darkness fever spread the country like wild fire, everyone who was anyone was listening to Permission To Land, I have a copy and I went to see them at Plymouth Pavilions in December last year, they were the biggest thing since sliced bread and it all happened within months, no-one could believe what an effect this band from Lowestoft, Suffolk was having on the music industry, people were comparing it to Beatle Mania…..but would it last?
After having numerous number 1’s from their debut alum, a Christmas Number 1 and sell out tours in the UK and America, they seem unstoppable, and after headlining Reading Festival this year they seem to be at the pinnacle of their career, but are they getting to big for their boots, all this success must have an effect on the way you look at things?
I found a comment on the Radio 1 website that makes you wonder if The Darkness will be around for as long as we are all thinking…The Darkness struggled a bit in Reading. They spent an estimated £100 000 on pyrotechnics and fireworks which went down well but they played some new songs which didn't get a great reception - even Justin admitted they weren't up to scratch
I for one hope they do not fizzle out once their second album is released as I personally think they are awesome, as do a lot of people I know, but Permission To Land is an amazing debut album, they are going to have to pull something outrageously fantastic out the bag to follow in its footsteps and have the same effect on their fans.
I am unsure when the new album will be released, but you can count on me being first in line to buy it, only then will we find out if Justin’s cat suits and vocal cords have been stretched to far!
