John Mayer: Pop Vocalist

American Grammy award winner John Mayer has begun to make a name for him self. His recent album Continuum snagged him an award for Pop Vocal Album at the February 2007 Grammy’s. At the same awards he also won an award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for Waiting on the World to Change from the same album. But just who is this acoustic rock turned pop singer/guitarist John Mayer and where did he come from?

He was born in the US in Connecticut where at the age of thirteen his aspiration for playing the guitar was realized. After his father rented him one he took off with it and kept going. He eventually left Connecticut and headed to Atlanta GA with his college friend and band mate. Once there they began making a name for their two-man band, LoFi Masters. Due to differences that he and his band mate had they opted to split, which started John on his solo career. With the help of a local producer/engineer he recorded the independent EP Inside Wants Out.

This was the beginning of something special for him because the EP contributed to him being signed to Columbia. In 2001 he released his first major label album, Room for Squares. In 2002 he won a Grammy for Your Body Is A Wonderland. He has also recorded such songs as Daughters, Why Georgia and the list goes on. Since then he has racked up a huge amount awards from everything from 2003 Danish Music Awards to MTV Video Awards. And not to forget his previous Grammy awards as well.

He has collaborated with such heavy weights as Eric Clapton, Aaron Neville, Herbie Hancock and the legendary BB King. Among others he has worked with, they include John Scofield, Kanye West and he is also scheduled to be on Alicia Keys’ upcoming album to be released this year. John Mayer’s inside wanted out and now that it is we are reaping the awards and that is good music.
