Will Clarke

The nations top triathlete reveals the foods that power him in three demanding disciplines

White bread
Clarke says: 'I'm crazy about bread. I eat it all the time and it gives me lots of instant energy.'
We say: White bread might not be as nutritionally sound as wholemeal varieties, but for an athlete who trains as intensely and frequently as Clarke it provides a much-needed energy source.

Pears
Clarke says: 'I eat loads of pears because I know they're good for me. It helps that I really like them too.'
We say: Pears are rich in antioxidants such as vitamins C and E and zinc, which boosts the immune system and are great for hard-training sportsmen, who can be at a greater risk of catching colds or flu. The same antioxidants can also aid recovery after a hard race or training session.
