Here is a poser for members to comment on.

After 43 years of what I thought was a happy satisfying marriage, the following happened.

In 2002 after returning from what was supposed a holiday of a lifetime to Bali,Australia,New Zealand,Singapore, with my wife, brother & his companion, Marie(wife) announced she did not have the same feelings towards me, just wanted to be friends, be more independent , I was gutted, wanted to know why after all those years ,this had happened.

She said we had grown apart,we have
Had counseling, but she still feels the same.
since 2002 we are still in the same house, live as brother/sister,sleep in separate rooms, have separate social lives, she still does usual domestics,I supply main income,do usual maintenance of house, car etc,

She doesn't care if I have other lady friends,we have no physical contact at all, that is why I have decided to try and find another companion, the councilor & my doctor both advised me to move on as they say, because they think all Marie wants out of life is her garden, cats, the 2 daughters 2 granddaughters (both live local),she has no interest in other men, is not interested in going on holiday together, just wants all the benefits of marriage but none of the romantic/loving involved.

It is a very awkward & unhappy situation, I am a sentimental feeling person & am finding it very difficult living in the circumstances I am in, especially after the previous 43 years that I thought were what marriage was supposed to be & our lives were until 2002.

I personaly decided to try and find a female companion initialy for a relationship which is missing from my life, I suppose it is a bit like eating your cake but still being hungry. I have met some & am corresponding at the moment.

THere was one special woman , whe died on 26th April last year of cancer in Canada, a month after I returned home after visiting her.

What would others do in these circumstances

If you are unhappy then you should look for a new parner.
I don't think I could live with my ex...
I have started a new life for my son and I and we are very happy.

Good day Brian

Firstly, sorry for your loss, I know we have not corresponded more than a couple of times but I get the feeling young lady in Canada meant a lot to you.

Regarding your present situation, its in your best interest to change it. Life is very short and there is no point wasting the time you have - your wife will not change her mind and you need love and nurturing so its up to you to find it. I would not remain in a situation that makes me feel lonely and unloved.

Go looking there is someone out there and Good Luck
