An interview with OD HUNTE.
OD HUNTE has worked with major record labels; Atlantic records us, Sony, bmg and many more.
OD has done music for film and television.
We would like to thank OD for doing this interview, and wish him all the best in the future.
1) Is OD your real name?
// Over Dose, sorry can't tell you..
2) Where are you from and where are you based now?
// I'm originally from Trinidad, been here for 19 years and now I'm based in sunny Hornsey, North London.
3) How long have you been in the music industry?
//Probably about 9 years, full time for the last four..
4) Who inspired you to go into music?
// I guess my Dad always used to play REAL music around the house so I got into it that way. When I say real music you know I mean Stevie, Diana, Michael, Grover Washington Jr, De barge, Blood Sweat and Tears, Kenny Rogers, Toto, Earth Wind and of course the calypsonian Shadow from Trinidad. Plus he played guitar in his spare time.
5) Who would you like to work with?
// From the UK Lethal B, Mica Paris, Omar, Joss Stone, Jamelia, Lemar - From the US- Soul: Floetry!!!, Anthony Hamilton //Rap: Missy, 50, G-Unit, Ludacris, Ghostface, The Game, Method Man, Jay-Z, Emm, Xzibit //Reggae: Sean Paul, Bennie man, Elephant man plus othuuurrs
6) Have you worked with any big names in urban music?
Well Almost (yes almost!) worked with Missy when she personally called me and asked for some backing tracks but that didn't pop off. Otherwise people that you would have heard about that I've worked with: Javine, Iceberg Slimm, Paris (Fame Acc), The 411, Tish (from the 411), Nina Jane, George Mc Crae...I guess it depends on your definition of big...
7) Whats your day like as a record producer
// There's not set day.. Some days I'm doing beats to pitch to 50 Cent (I've been to New York twice this year, the second time to G Unit records), other days I'm doing invoices. I also mix projects for people as alot of people don't recognize that mixing black music or "Urban" music is a skill that not that many people have. That's why people come to me..Umm Other days I'm emailing, in fact every day constantly I'm emailing, MP3 ing to New York, Atlanta, Japan, Paris, LA, London, everywhere. I've got a lot of projects on. I just licensed 6 tracks to MTV in LA and I'm going to license about thirty more in a minute.
8) Have you an album of your own music
// No That's a project for next year but I have an album that I wrote, produced, recorded and mixed which features New York rapper Slic One signed to my label. Goto iTunes and type "My Minds State Slic One". I did that entire album.
9) Do you have any last words you would like to add?
// yep, stay focused and learn your craft but most importantly, learn the business. This is music business not music fun, not music I'm -so-talented... holla at you boy.
