I have been waiting for McFly's album since the release of the first album Room on the 3rd Floor, which was smashing, and it has finally been released! Woo woo.
The McFly boys have come so far since 5 colours in her hair had us wanting more from Danny, Tom, Dougie and Harry by having major sell-out tours throughout the UK, releasing a hit song All about you for Comic Relief and releasing a McFly on tour DVD (which Pete got me for Christmas woo woo).
Anyway I'm going to review this album Pingu-style by talking about all the tracks instead of picking out the bad songs and the favourites of mine:
1. I'll be OK - A great tune to open McFly's new album, very grown-up and totally different from the poppy 5 colours in her hair! This is a great pick-me-up tune if I'm feeling down. Still a bit of pop in this song but with a hint of soft rock! I give this 8/10
2. I've got you - I always feel a bit wary of listening to songs on albums that I've never heard of before 'cos on most albums they are rubbish! I've got you shows the boys' talents reaching the extreme but we know that they will kick us and be even better on the third album! 7/10
3. Ultraviolet - I love the beginning of this song, but then it sounds the same throughout! Tom sings most of the vocals to this song and his voice sounds so much more grown-up! 7/10
4. Ballad of Paul K - McFly's fifth song from this album! This song is amazing, I read somewhere that this song is a tribute to their dads' middle-age fears. This song is quite gloomy but as always Danny's voice amazes me, his voice is very strong and intense! Love it. 9/10
5. I wanna hold you - I absolutely love this song. I wasn't too sure in the beginning - I think it was maybe the music video that put me off - but after a couple of listens I was hooked. This song shows just what amazing musicians they are. 10/10
6. Too close for comfort - Amy first said something about this song to me so I downloaded it straight away, and what a beautiful song - as soon as I heard the intro I knew that this would be my favourite song on the album!
This song describes the pain of a break-up (I won't be listening to it on my next break-up) and the chorus is just brilliant. Danny's voice yet again blows me away. I love it. 10/10
7. All about you - This is a brilliant song and Tom wrote it while he was watching crime watchers. Raised loads of money for Comic Relief and the orchestra is brilliant. I love this song and when I heard it in Corsica it cheered me and I couldn't stop myself from singing really loud and horridly (thank God nobody was in the nursery room with me). 9/10
8. She falls asleep (part 1) - an orchestral introduction to the next song - I only listen to classical music when I try and get to sleep! I read it sounds very Disney, and it does. It's beautiful - really does remind me of The Little Mermaid somehow! 7/10
9. She falls asleep (part 2) - Now this is better: we have Tom's beautiful voice singing about a girl who commits suicide – she's one of the guys' friends! (I'm guessing it's one of Toms friends as he sings it all.) This song is very deeply moving when you listen to the lyrics very carefully! This song must have meant a lot to the McFly guy, who is very brave to sing about such an emotional subject. 10/10
10. Don't know why - I read (again) that this song is written by Danny and his sister Vicky. This song indicates how much they have all changed mentally, physically and musically! This song kind of reminds me of Matt's solo even though it's completely different - maybe it's because Matt and Danny are fit?? It's brilliant. 9/10
11. Nothing - Very catchy, it sounds quite indie-rock and it wouldn't surprise me if this is the guys' next single. 9/10
12. Memory lane - Another great song to finish the album off with. The guys sing about how much they have grown up in the past two years and, believe me, they have! 10/10
All in all this album is a must-buy and I think it's much less cheesy than the first album (I loved the first album, know all the words!!!). I didn't want this album to end, you always get to hear Dougie sing and I hope the guys have many more years together because I'll be very gutted if these guys are no longer McFly and to be honest I don't see that happening until the guys are in their forties!!
