Someone close to me just got a speeding fine, it was for £60 and 3 points. To me this seems fair.

Speeding costs lives and i totally agree with fines etc.............

What i dont understand, is that about 18months ago i got a fine in the post. £50 guess what for?????????????????

dropping a cig butt out of my car window!!!!
When i didnt pay the fine i got a court summons, i really dont belive that the council were fining me £50 for a cig butt. I did pay the fine even though i'm still convinced that there was no evidence, and don't recall the incident.

So my point is, £60 for doing something tat could have cost a life, £50 for a cig end!!!!!

I just don't see any similarity, im confused and still angry about the fact that i see people throwing full takeaway wrappers out the car window, and people driving like idiots getting away with murder!!!

The moral of the story, if your gonna throw your tab end out the window, make sure there's noone looking

no seriously, i'd be interested to hear what you think about this, and i'd like to hear any other unfair fine stories anyone may want to share.

take care

The Government at the moment do see the motorist as a cash cow, but road safety has to be taken seriously.

As someone who has seen the results of an RTA at just 30 miles per hour, all parties have to take responsibilities including the driver.

A fine for dropping a cigarette butt out of a car window is verging on the ridiculous IMHO.

Sorry but whilst I agree that careless drivers should be clamped down upon, I think that smoking, eating, brushing hair and mobile phone use whilst driving should all be offences. They all cause accidents.

£60 was still a hefty fine though for littering.

Trust me to be awkward. :?:

If we all threw ciggie buts into the road (or wherever) just imagine the pollution that would cause over a period of time.

The cellulose in ciggie filters is non-biodegradeable and the chemicals in-side the used filter contain thousands of chemicals, most of which are non-biodegradable.

Also what if your dog-end blew into my car as you disposed of it and caused a major accident???

Sorry but you have an ash tray in your motor. Use it or be prepared to pay a fine for littering.

FWIT you cannot compare one penalty/misdemeanour with another with regards to punishment.

hi shell

well for speeding yes i totally agree, but cig butt thats just takes the butt (excuse the pune!)

i needed to get a time sheet for my boyfriend the other week saw this space parked there knowing i would only be two mins....its the most expensive two minutes of my life i got clamped and they wanted £80.00 i was so annoyed as the parking notice was so high you wouldnt of seen it if you was blind right out of eye sight, so really they got me, was well peeded off but the two beefy blokes just stood there with there mobiles texting.....still now i look for all signs taught me a lesson.....so just a warning to others make sure you look at walls before you park or it could become expensive parking fine.... kaz x  [/b]

Hmm - I think speeding fines are definately a worth while deterrent. After seeing some nasty road accidents - there is no reason why anyone should speed. I remember seeing a newspaper artical where one of the most vocal opponents of the GATSO's killed her daughter speeding a few weeks after slating them.

OTOH - where the local council are reducing the limit in an area and throwing in a camera straight away is just unfair. It might make sense to reduce the limit, but you need to give them a few months or so to get adjusted. I have seen a good one in Crouch End/Highgate area - where they have an intelligent speed sign. It has speed sensors (like a camera), and when a driver is going to fast it flashes orange lights and "SLOW DOWN NOW!!!" in big letters at them. For the most part - it seemed to slow down drivers when they got to it too.. Now to have one of those for a few weeks, then a camera afterwards would be a bit fairer.

As for the fag butts - I think 50 quid is excessive, but I agree with every word gnasher and Craftiests posts.

I have some fairly strong views on cars in general - as in London drivers are seriously inconsiderate, and it does make me irate when I see cars bombing down our little back street. I know the local kids around here, and cannot stand the thought of some boy racer hitting one of them. That and the fact that some parts of London stink because of too many cars.
