At one stage or another in our lives we are all faced with decisions about what to do in various situations.

My biggest gamble was to pack up and leave South Africa to start a new life in the UK. It wasnt easy at first, but I am glad I took the gamble. I have been here for 4 years and I am very settled here. I think what has helped is the fact that I have been willing to *embrace* the culture of the UK.

Aww Shelly, that must have been hard to do. I have also been down that road. I think you get so used to being with someone so sometimes it boils down to .... better the devil you know. so are you enjoying the single life now?

Being single has its good points I guess. It is nice to be your own boss so to speak, but there are time I miss having someone to share my life with. My kids are grown up, so i guess I will wait to be a Nanna. *shudder*

I know what it is like to leave someone Shell but I am glad to see you have become a stronger person because of it. When I seperated from my first husband I was so used to doing things for myself that when I remarried I found it very difficult to let him decorate, put a picture on the wall etc. It took me over a year to realise that he actually wanted to do things for me and that I didn't need to anymore.
Splitting up knocks the confidence clean out of you, you wonder was it your fault even though deep inside you know that is untrue. You put a barrier up so that no one hurts you that much again etc. It took me a long time to trust someone enough to let them be a part of my life again but I got there Shell. There is no quick fix, just try and get out plenty and have fun for a while.

Leaving my first husband when my daughter was only 8 weeks old was the biggest gamble I ever took as well but I got through it and came up smiling.....eventually. xxx
