ANGRY trainer Alan Bailey is to appeal against the Huntingdon stewards decision to fine him £1,000 and ban his hurdler Ballycroy Girl for 40 days after the filly was unplaced on Saturday.

Bailey wasn't at the Cambridgeshire track and the stewards acted on his representatives evidence that jockey Bernie Wharfe had ridden the filly to orders.

Ballycroy Girl was never in contention and finally finished 11th of 14 with Wharfe putting her under minimal pressure.

"I've been fined £1,000 because the jockey gave the horse a bad ride," stormed Bailey.

"I couldn't believe it as he didn't put her in the race at all - he just fell asleep and got caught out."

Ballycroy Girl is entered at Ludlow on Friday and will run is Bailey's appeal is successful.

This incident is another blot on the career of Wharfe, as he recently returned to the saddle having served part of a three-year sentence for causing the death of a nuclear expert in a hit-and-run accident in March 2003 when nearly twice the drink drive limit.
