Steve Coppell refused to even contemplate the prospect of Premiership football next season despite watching his Reading side consolidate second place in the Championship with a 1-1 draw at Hull.
The Royals remain unbeaten since the opening day of the season - a run of 15 games in all competitions - after Glen Little's 74th-minute header cancelled out Chris Brown's opener for the Tigers.
And although his side remain in great heart for a genuine push for promotion, Coppell insists it would be wrong for anyone at the club to get carried away just yet.
"It's absolutely futile looking at the table at this early stage of the season," he said. "It doesn't matter what anyone else does - we're just concentrating on doing our own thing and getting as many points as possible.
"We just want to continue playing well and deal with the matter of taking every game as it comes.
"Then hopefully we will be in a position where we are lucky to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season." |
