Name: Simon Dean
Weight: 220 pounds
From: Clearwater, Fla.
Finishing Move: The Simonizer
Career Highlights: Defeated The Hurricane in his WWE debut on Dec. 6.
In the Fall of 2004, obnoxious infomercials for Simon Dean’s suspect Simon System began popping up on RAW promising great results for those wanting to turn themselves into physical specimens, like Simon himself. After several weeks of promoting the Simon System as a RAW sponsor, RAW General Manager Eric Bischoff granted Simon Dean airtime live at RAW events which ultimately led to confrontation with The Hurricane and his jovial superhero sidekick, Rosey.
In the coming months, the obnoxious Dean would continue his infomercial campaign promoting the Simon System and its supplements while making fun of those who he felt were in need of his Simon System. |

Real Name: Michael Bucci (or Michael Moraldo)

Other Names: Super Nova(ECW), Hollywood Nova(ECW), Nova(OVW)
Wrestler Since: 1991

History:
If nothing else, you can say the career of Michael Bucci has been entertaining. Throughout his career, Bucci has been part of several gimmicks, most notably during his time in Extreme Championship Wrestling. After over a decade in the business, it's about time the man was given a shot at success in World Wrestling Entertainment.
The Beginning
Bucci started out with other career possibilities, earning a college degree in Mathematics. But Michael was interested in something more, and went with a friend at the age of 19 to a wrestling school, learning the basics of the craft. Bucci trained under "Iron" Mike Sharpe, one of the most well-known trainers in the business. In 1991, Michael began his in-ring career, competing regularly around the indy circuit. He worked hard, earning a reputation for being a great "creative" wrestler, that is, adding new moves to his repetoire on a regular basis. It took years, but Bucci was finally noticed by one of the Big Three, and headed to Extreme Championship Wrestling in 1995.
ECW
As the 'superhero' known as Super Nova, Bucci debuted as a member of Raven's Nest (the precursor to Raven's Flock in WCW). Super Nova, dressed in a uniform complete with cape and face paint, joined with others to try to help Raven get the victory. However, as time went on, Super Nova, Stevie Richards, and the Blue Meanie all broke away from the Nest, opting to try to work on their own. This led to one of the funniest bits in ECW's history, as the trio formed the Blue World Order, a parody of WCW's nWo. Super Nova became known as "Hollywood" Nova, in 'tribute' of "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan, while his partners became "Little Stevie Cool" (a likeness of Kevin Nash) and Da Blue Guy (a likeness of Scott Hall).
When Richards later returned to Raven's side, Super Nova & the Blue Meanie stayed as a 'super' tag-team, having various feuds with the other teams in ECW throughout 1998. The two made a good pairing, although they were never able to gain the ECW Tag Titles. At the end of '98, the Blue Meanie jumped to the WWF, leaving Super Nova without a tag-team partner. This didn't last long, as Super Nova began regularly teaming up with Chris Chetti. This led to a change in character, as Super Nova no longer had a wild and crazy partner like the Blue Meanie. He eventually shortened his name to Nova, removing his make-up and cape to become a serious competitor. Nova continued to team with Chetti throughout '99 and into '00, while also joining up for a team with another ECW wrestler, Kid Kash.
In August '00, it was announced that a tournament would be held for the ECW World Tag-Team Titles. Nova & Chetti seemed to be the favorites going into the tournament, but Chetti's mind didn't seem to be on business, and it ended up costing the team, as Nova & Chetti lost in the 1st round to Simon Diamond & Johnny Swinger. A night later, Nova came to the ring, apparently willing to forgive his partner. But Chetti didn't want forgiveness, instead attacking Nova with a chair and laying him out in the ring. After a short break to heal, Nova returned seeking revenge. The two men signed to fight at November To Remember '00, with Chetti requesting that it be a "Loser Leaves Town" match. Nova agreed, and the two went at it, with Chetti's manager, Lou E. Dangerously, interfering on Chetti's behalf. It wasn't enough, though, as Nova got an incredible Kryptonite Krunch from the middle turnbuckle to get the victory, sending Chetti out of ECW.
Nova's momentum seemed to be building after the victory, as he became a bigger star for ECW. Unfortunately, this wasn't a great time for that, as ECW was having serious money issues by this point. At Massacre on 34th Street in December '00, Hot Commodity (Julio Dinero, EZ Money, Electra, & Chris Hamrick) were beating down Balls Mahoney, after EZ Money had won via deceit. Nova ran down to make the save, attacking all 3 men. This quickly led to a match between Nova and Dinero, with Hot Commodity doing all they could to make the match go their way. But with Mahoney breaking up the group, Nova was able to get the win with a swanton bomb, pinning Dinero. Nova continued to feud with Hot Commodity going into 2001, mainly focusing on Hamrick. Nova debuted a new look at Guilty As Charged '01, in a match with Hamrick. The match took a strange turn when Chris Chetti returned, dressed in a referee uniform, and tried to call the match for Hamrick. But Spike Dudley came down to help take out Chetti, then made the count after Nova hit the Kryptonite Krunch on Hamrick for the win.
Sadly, this turned out to be the last pay-per-view for Extreme Championship Wrestling, ending the federation's run just as Nova seemed to be on his way to great things in the company. Despite being a major factor of ECW, Nova had to depart without having ever held a single title in the company.
OVW
For the next year or so, Nova wrestled on the independent scene, continuing to become a better wrestler. He also began to pick up more titles everywhere he went. Nova formed a successful tag-team with Frankie Kazarian, with the team winning the UPW Tag-Team Titles and the PCW Tag-Team Titles in a short time frame. In June '01, Nova also teamed with fellow ex-ECW wrestler Tommy Dreamer to win the Border City Wrestling Tag-Team Titles from Johnny Swinger & Fantasy. This gave Nova 3 new tag straps to his credit. Despite his success in the tag ranks, however, there were better things around the corner for the former ECW star. A few months into 2002, Nova signed a WWE developmental contract, and debuted shortly thereafter in Ohio Valley Wrestling. In no time at all, Nova was challenging for the OVW Heavyweight Title, and surprisingly defeated the Prototype (John Cena) for the belt in May '02.
Nova would go on to defend the title for almost 6 months, fending off many strong challengers, including Christian, Cena, and others. He also made a special appearance at the PCW Russ Haas Memorial Tag-Team Tournament, replacing Jamal as the partner of Russ's brother, Charlie. The two won the tournament, defeating Doug Basham & the Damaja (Danny Basham). Nova eventually lost the title in November '02 to the Damaja, and was unable to regain the belt despite several tries over the next few months. Nova then went back to tag-team wrestling, teaming up with Aaron Stevens, who became known as Idol. In October '03, while wrestling at a WWE house show, Nova & Idol managed to take down Adrenaline (Chris Cage & Tank Toland) for the OVW Southern Tag-Team Titles. Nova & Idol stayed the champs going into the new year, until Adrenaline was able to reclaim the belts at March Mayhem '04. Nova then spent the next few months in OVW without any gold, just waiting for his chance to shine.
WWE
In October '04, vignettes began to air talking about the Simon System, a program designed to help people lose weight. The star of this program was a man called Simon Dean (Nova), who insulted the people he supposedly was trying to help. Dean made his first live appearance on Raw at the beginning of November '04, coming out and insulting several fans, including bringing one into the ring and eventually beating on him with a submission hold. The next week, Simon was at it again, this time getting a lady to drink a special mixture. The lady ended up throwing the glass in Simon's face, but Simon had the last laugh, dumping a gallon of the stuff onto her. A week later, Simon finally had a confronatation with a wrestler, Rosey. When Simon called him fat, Rosey attacked, taking care of one of Simon's "pupils". Simon came back, though, and hit Rosey in the head with a container full of "Simon System" powder before quickly leaving.
2005
Dean had a small feud going with Rosey for the next few weeks leading into 2005, usually with the duo getting after each other on the smaller Raw-based shows. On one Raw, Dean made another appearance, announcing that he had brought some new fat-burning pills to Florida, where, according to him, the beaches were so filled with fat people that they looked like beached whales. Dean then talked about how he was going to give a 'free sample' to a wrestler over 300 pounds who was known to wear a mask. This was obviously a reference to Rosey, yet instead Kane came out, to Dean's absolute fright. Kane took one of the fat-burning pills and ate it, only to spit it out. He then forced Dean to eat several of the pills, before getting Dean's weight belt to take it to him. He was set to chokeslam Dean when Gene Snitsky attacked (he was feuding with Kane at the time), saving Dean and letting the man run for it.
At the '05 Royal Rumble, Dean came down as #18. He seemed a little reluctant to enter, putting on his weight belt as well as his headphones. Dean's run in the Rumble was a relatively short one, as the next entrant, Shawn Michaels, was able to clothesline Dean over the top rope and to the floor. Batista went on to win the Rumble. Twenty-four hours later on Raw, Dean was given an Intercontinental Title shot against Shelton Benjamin, and almost made the most of it, getting a 2 count after nearly knocking Benjamin out by getting his gym bag in the way of a stinger splash. But Benjamin was too strong, pinning Dean after a spinning heel kick to the head. After the match, Dean tried to take some of Benjamin's credit, claiming that the reason the champ beat him was because Benjamin used the Simon System. Benjamin didn't take kindly to this, though, and came back, splashing Dean, then taking him out with the T-Bone Suplex.
In February '05, Dean went with the rest of the Raw roster to give the first broadcast of the show from Japan. Dean interrupted the Diva Fashion Show, promoting his Simon System to a new audience. He also insulted the emcee of the show, Jerry Lawler. Dean's speech was stopped rather suddenly, though, as Christy Hemme gave him a low blow from behind, taking him down. The Divas then danced around the ring before leaving Dean laying in pain. Seemingly as punishment for messing up the Divas show, Dean was placed in a match against Kane the next Raw. Dean, obviously terrified, talked about how, somehow, he would continue the Simon System for those who believed in him, and condemned those who didn't to be fat. Kane dominated Dean, even using his own weapons against him, before chokeslamming him for the victory.
Dean's losing streak continued a week later, as he was forced to submit to Chris Jericho. Dean attempted to escape the Walls of Jericho by crawling to his gym bag, but the referee quickly took the bag away, leaving Dean no choice but to tap. It's unknown whether Dean will ever be able to get back on the winning track, or if the gimmick is doomed to failure. Maybe a new Simon System is needed?
