CARDIFF GOALKEEPER CALLED INTO SQUAD Sunday, 09 Oct 2005
Neil Alexander has been recalled to the Scotland squad for the final World Cup qualifier in Slovenia on Wednesday, while four players have had to drop out.
Barry Ferguson is suspended following his second booking in yesterday''s match, while Callum Davidson has returned home for the imminent birth of a child. Lee McCulloch and David Marshall are both nursing injuries and have returned to their clubs.
Goalkeeper Neil Alexander has been in sparkling form for his club, Cardiff City, this season, and recently had four consecutive shut-outs. Although never capped at A level, he was a squad regular until early 2004, and has the experience that will allow him to settle in quickly.
Scotland fly to Slovenia on Monday morning, and although a World Cup play-off place is beyond them with Norway having clinched the spot last night, there is still national pride to play for, and ranking points for the next UEFA European Championships draw.
