Influential Fulham midfielder Sylvain Legwinski is closing in on a return to first-team action.

The Frenchman has been out of action since suffering a groin injury against Birmingham on the opening day of the season.

But he told the club's official website: "It's going in the right direction.

"The stiffness in my adductor is taking a little longer than expected to get rid of. But I've done some full training and played some reserve-team football so everything's moving in the right direction.

"Hopefully I'm about a week away from being fully fit."

Al Fayed aiming high
By Alex Livie - Created on 18 Dec 2005

Mohamed Al Fayed feels the future is bright for Fulham and is confident star midfielder Steed Malbranque will not move on in January.

Al Fayed ploughed massive funds into the club to turn them into a Premiership force and feels they can make further progress in the seasons ahead.

Key to their success is likely to be the ability to retain the services of major players such as Papa Bouba Diop and Malbranque.

Both midfielders have been linked with January moves from Craven Cottage, but Al Fayed expects Malbranque to remain at the club.

"He loves the club and is a fantastic player," Al Fayed told Sky Sports News. "He has good ties with the other players and I am sure he will not leave us."

Manager Chris Coleman has made a positive impression on Al Fayed and the Cottagers supremo expects the pair to have success in the future.

"We will be making a lot of changes, we will be buying new players and I hope the next half of the season we will be champions," added Al Fayed.

Extolling the virtues of Coleman, Al Fayed added: "He is a very talented young manager and I have to give chances to British managers who show commitment.

"I have to keep supporting him, he has proved himself in the last two seasons and I am sure with my support we will have success."

Carlos Bocanegra is rumoured to be on the cusp of pledging his future to Fulham.

The American full back has proved a consistent figure since arriving from Chicago Fire and reports suggest he will soon sign a new deal.
