Tell a Friend Posted: Tue Jul 05, 2005 9:04 am    Post subject: Kings Of Leon - Live at Plymouth Pavilions - 4th July 2005

When I got home from London on the weekend I had a voicemail message from my friend Leon (complete coinsidence!) saying that he would ring me later about tomorrow....it took me about 10 minutes to figure out what he was talking about and then I realised that I was due to see The Kings Of Leon at Plymouth Pavilions on the 4th of July!

After a very hectic weekend I was extremely tired but I had been looking forward to seeing them since Easter, so after a day at work I strolled on up to Ants work where I met him as he had to work late, and we drove back down to my work parked up the car and walked to the Mount Pleasant to meet my friends Leon, Sarah and her boyfriend James, we had a quick pint in there and made our way over to the Pavilions.

As per usual it was absolutley packed in the bar area and there seemed to be a lot of teenagers there which made me feel really old! But as the gig went on I noticed that there was actually alot more older people than me there so I felt a bit better...lol

The gig kicked off at 8pm with The Features a band from Tennessee with Matt Pelham on guitar and vocals, Parrish Yaw on synths, Roger Dabbs on bass and Rollum Haas on drums. The Features serve up energetic rock, and a really great sound and not to dis-similar from the sound that The Kings have. They put on a great show and the crowd really appreciated them, it is a shame that they did not make a little more effort with the lighting and the set up of the stage as in the backround you could see the Kings Of Leon's drum kit behind them with a big brown sheet over it. Not very pleasing to the eye! But other than that they sounded very funky and entertained the crowd and warmed them up nicely for the next band.

9.15 came along and the lights when down once again and the crowd went nuts and on stage came The Kings Of Leon, now I have liked these guys since they first hit the scene so I was really looking forward to this gig regardless of the fact I was half asleep, I stuck in there like a real trooper and rocked out with the best of them. The Nashville-based band of brothers (and one cousin) waltzed onto the stage with their funky hair cuts which I had noticed some members of the crowd had copied, which made me chuckle to myself. They rocked straight into their hit Molly's Chambers, they continued to bash out hit after hit, with most of the crowd bopping away, getting their groove on to the funky unique sound of The Kings. With Caleb Followill on vocals and guitar, Matthew Followill on guitar, Jared Followill on bass and Nathan Followill on drums and backing vocals, they put on a great show the highlights for me being when they played Four Kicks, Spiral Staircase and Taper Jean Girl, with the vocals sounding as good as the do on record. They came, they rocked and they left with The Kings they are not a band going all out on showmanship, crowd participation or interaction... For them it is evidently about the music and not the performance of it all.

The show finished at roughly 10.30, me and Ant walked back to the car parked at my work and drove home my ears still buzzing, I got home took my contacts out and fell straight into bed!

I took a lot of photos last night but as you and see I did not download them last night so I will do it tonight and post them tomorrow.

Another amazing night had by all.
