Album Review: The cool

"They think it's cool to stand on he block hiding product in their socks,
making quick dimebags dollars; they think its cool to ride down on you in in blue and white unmarked cars busting you upside your head..... Freeze!...because the problem is that we think it's cool too"

-Baba Says Cool For Thought (Intro)

Not exactly following the 'Get money' theme hip hop is currently sinking in, Lupe Fiasco's Sophomore album 'The Cool' provides a much needed breath of fresh air to a genre, which at the moment in time is on a somewhat, life support machine.

The Chicago born artist Lupe Fiasco, born Wasulu Muhammed Jaco, initially strikes as a an outcast from todays Hip hop, from his quirky Clark Kent glasses, conscience rhyming and his love of skateboarding, Lupe could arguably be considered 'uncool'.

However all of these attributes are actually what makes him and his album,( quite ironicly) cool.

The first smash single, "Superstar" featuring Matthew Santos, provides an avenue onto the charts, with its radio friendly beats on to which Lupe Fiasco's juxtaposing conscience, witty rhymes. Stand out tracks from the album include the very smooth "Paris Tokyo" where Lupe raps to a mellow beat in a style reminiscent, to an earlier snoop dogg; "Hi-Defintion"featuring West Coast vet Snoop Dogg and Pooh Bear, displays how brillant collabrations can be when executed correct; Other bangers
to watch out for are "The coolest" and "Dumb it Down".

This album is defnintly complete fire and seems to grow on you, after each listen.

It seems Lupe Fiasco's style which, falls into the small school of conscience but cool rappers, such Common sense, Kanye West, Talib Kweli and Mos Def is one to defnintely cherish, in an age when Hip Hop legend Nas declares "Hip Hop is dead"
