|
|
I was really nervous about this gig, were were in competition with another Plymouth venue but we had some amazing local bands on the line-up so we were in with a fighting chance of getting a good turn out. After about 2 weeks of solid promotion it was gig night.
I arrived at around 6pm, we helped get the place sorted out and the equipment in and up on the stage, then the members of the other bands started turning up with all their equipment so it was all hands on deck to get everything ready for the doors to be opened at 8.30pm.
I opened the doors at 8.30 and there was already a small crowd outside waiting to come in. And before I knew it, it was 9pm and the first band was going on..Redemption Un-named were the first band, they played some awesome music, with some astonishing guitar riffs and some funky bass playing, the singers voice reminded me of Gwen Staffani, she sang some very powerfull lyrics throughout. They played a fairly long set but this was good as there were people flooding in through the doors and they were catching peoples attention.
The second band to go on at about 9.45 were The Imprint, now I really like these guys they are all fairly young but have a pretty good understanding for their instruments. They played some wicked song and what with the debut release of their first single they were pretty buzzing, they managed to screw up a few songs but no-one was really bothered as it was covered up with banter and cheers from the crowd. All in all they played a very good set although a little short, I see a good future for these guys.
The third band to go on at about 10ish were the mighty Serenity, now I am going to try and not be to biast here but it is going to be hard because every time I see these guys and I see them quite often they are more and more amazing every time! I was especially looking forward to tonight as they had not played for around 4 or 5 months and they had been very busy jamming every week writing new songs and they had three new ones to show case at the gig. So when they kicked off with some classics like Maria and The Wave everyone was going nuts as it was so good to hear them again!
By this time there was about 130 people in the building and dancing around to Serenity, the three new songs they played (I am yet to find out the names of them!) were brilliant, and Paul the new guitarist is now singing backing vocals so the whole set is sounding alot more meatier and lot more like something that should be played infront of hundreds of thousands of people not in a small venue in Plymouth anymore!
The last to go on at about 11 were the awesome Quarantine, now I have seen these guys quite alot over the last few months what with Serenity not gigging, most of the gigs I have been to, have been to see Quarantine, but I never get tired of hearing them. After the feasco of the whipping session that went on the last time they played at Tramps (dont ask  ) it was good to see them at their peak when Rob the guitarist was sloshed after drinking to much, Sam the bassist is winding down after only arriving to the gig about 20 minutes after finshing work! Rusty just being Rusty and teaching those drums a lesson and Tom with amazing riffs and Chris with his deep and political, thought provoking lyrics.
Normally by the time the last band goes on it is almost traditional for the last band to play to a empty venue what with last buses etc, but this was not the case tonight there was still a venue packed full of people right up until the lights came on! By this time nearly everyone who was drinking was hammered including me! My taxi was at 1.30 so me and Ant had to abandon ship and head for home and leave all the responsible people to tidy up!
So yeah that was the jist of the events of Friday it was a really successful night, we made enough money to put towards putting on Novembers gig, which is also going to be an awesome line-up!
I took about 54 photos on Friday but have not got them developed them yet so I will post some of the bands and some of my nutter mates when I get them done.

Congrats on the gig, sounds like it went really well! Ya must introduce me to more stuff by Serenity, the couple of song samples I've heard of theirs so far have been decent fo' sure! :)
Are Quarantine another 'amateur' band? I've not heard of them before :o |
